A Baía dos PIIGS

On October 24th, 2015, after fulfilling every promise on far-left party Syriza’s political manifesto, Greece unilaterally abandoned membership of NATO.

As conflict between government forces, backed by Western mercenaries, and pro-Russian separatists spread across the Ukraine, spilling over into Moldova and Romania and forcing Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria to polarize their stances further – the former two away from a decaying EU, the latter closer to that bloc –  Russia seized the opening from Greece, with whom it agreed on terms for the construction and development of a military port and airfield on the island of Crete. 

Shortly thereafter, and still reeling from the aftermath of “financial intervention” by the European Commission, the nation of Cyprus unilaterally declared its own divorce from the European Union, abandoning the Euro as legal tender and reverting to the Cypriot Pound, pegging it to the Russian rouble immediately.
